Born in Bristol, raised in Dorset and residing in London, Henry Keen aka The Room Below has been DJing and collecting vinyl for over 25 years.
Much of the early years of collecting was focussed on tracking down underground dance music from the US: particularly Detroit Techno and Chicago House, as well as experimental breakbeat sounds coming from the UK.
The alias ‘The Room Below” was coined to coincide with Henry’s sample-free re-working of housemate Paul White’s ‘Rapping With’ LP in 2012, written whilst residing in the room directly below Paul's. Although predominantly a down-tempo record, Henry decided to continue the alias as he experimented with creating material inspired by his early vinyl purchases, similarly built around synthesizers and drum machines rather than samples. The Room Below has since released two EPs and several singles with award-winning UK-based House, Techno and experimental dance music label, Don't Be Afraid, recently celebrating their 10th Anniversary.
